Inspired Direction for Music Video

Doing some more research and note taking for my music video. For the song Sybil's, I was thinking of using shapes to detail the story of what's going on. Exactly what happens in the video, I am still conceptualizing.

As I continue to listen and imagine, two animation projects I have adored came to mind. The first, The Dot and The Line, directed by Chuck Jones. While the narration did give some emotion to the characters, the colors, movement, and direction, made the animation a masterpiece. It's inspiring me to go for abstract shapes and to try to give them emotion rather than relying on facial expressions and full figured movements.

The second animation was featured in Fantasia 2000, called Rhapsody in Blue. It was directed by Eric Goldberg (supervising animator for the Genie, Phil from Hercules, and Louis from The Princess and the Frog) with advisement from legendary cartoonist Al Hirschfeld (Paige, this is the same guy who inspired me for my book cover in your intro class). The storytelling of different people desiring simple things in life, and taking the risks to do it, adds a huge splash with the music. The color schemes and character designs are gorgeous, seeing them move as shapes, not lines. Not to mention that the setting is in the city, and I think that might play a role for my animation. We'll see.

I'm going to storyboard this weekend, and have it ready for Monday.
